Officers

John Christopher Thomas (PhD, University of Sheffield) is the President of the Book of Mormon Studies Association. He is the Clarence J. Abbott Professor of Biblical Studies at Pentecostal Theological Seminary in Cleveland, TN (USA) and Director of the Centre for Pentecostal and Charismatic Studies at Bangor University in Bangor, Wales (UK). An elected member of the Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas, Thomas is the author of nine books, including A Pentecostal Reads the Book of Mormon (CPT Press), and has published scores of articles in academic journals, including the Journal of Book of Mormon Studies, for which he serves on the Editorial Advisory Board.


Joseph M. Spencer (PhD, University of New Mexico) is the Vice President over finances for the Book of Mormon Studies Association. He is assistant professor of ancient scripture at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT (USA) and editor of the Journal of Book of Mormon Studies. The associate director of the Latter-day Saint Theology Seminar, Spencer is the author of three books, most recently The Vision of All: Twenty-five Lectures on Isaiah in Nephi’s Record (Greg Kofford Books), and has published numerous articles and book chapters in the fields of philosophy and Latter-day Saint scriptural theology.

 

 

 


Kimberly Matheson

Kimberly Matheson (PhD, Loyola University Chicago) is the Vice President over communications for the Book of Mormon Studies Association. She is the Laura F. Willes Research Fellow at the Neal A. Maxwell Institute at BYU. Matheson has published articles with the Journal of Book of Mormon Studies and currently serves on the board of the Latter-day Saint Theology Seminar.
